Take a cup or glass, fill it up with water, now bring the gold that you want to test. Drop it into this filled glass. If the gold floats, it is surely not real but if the gold sinks to the end of the glass then it is pure gold. The real gold will sink due to being a heavy metal.
Look For The Hallmark. Nearly all real gold is stamped with a hallmark that notes the karat weight of the jewelry, like 10K or 14K.

How to test your gold at home
Fill a pipette with white vinegar. White vinegar is the most acidic fountain vinegar and works best when tested for gold.
Clean the gold with a new rag or cloth to remove debris or dirt.
Use a pipette to add 2 or 3 drops of vinegar to the gold.
